Before and After school Care

From 6:30am to 8:30am and 2:30pm to 6:30pm for Kindergarteners and School Agers

At Smart Start, we look to provide your child the "home away from home" experience.  We pride ourselves on offering more than other programs.

Our key differentiators include:

  • Bussing to/from our centre to your child’s school.  This includes walking them over to and from the bus stop to ensure their safety.  Our private bussing partner, TGT, gets to know your child personally so they feel safe and welcomed through transit

  • Small classroom sizes

  • Hearty meals/ late snacks included – We know that kids are very hungry as they return from school.  We provide lunch/afternoon snack options that can feed your growing child.

  • Our program is run by experienced Early Childhood Educators and Assistants that know or will get to know your child intimately

  • PA days are reserved

  • Extended projects and individualized programming – we go beyond free play to include extended projects and unique programming to engage and continue learning while your child is in our care.  This will continue to align to the Ministry of Education’s “How Does Learning Happen” philosophy.  These will be included as well in the PA days and school breaks.

  • Homework support – as required, the educators will support your child in their after school homework. They will work with you as partners in providing the learning support your child needs.

  • Outdoor programming – as required, the educators are able to access our backyard to run outdoor programs and activities

The  learning environment is catered to the age group's developmental needs and includes:

  • Reading Corner: designed as a quiet area encouraging children to become familiar with books and stories

  • Dramatic Centre: designed to allow children to be imaginative, develop social and emotional skills, discover verbal and nonverbal means of communication, and to give expression to the many emotions they may feel.

  • Cognitive Area: designed to make use of tools such as puzzles to teach sequencing and shape recognition and encourage development of fine motor skills.

  • Science / Sensory Centre: Including water, sand, nature items for play and learning

  • Creative Arts: designed to provide an outlet for creative expression, as well as giving children an opportunity to work with their hands, which in turn helps to develop fine motor skills.

  • Construction centre: designed to provide different building materials to enable your child to continue to build and create different structures

  • Access to electronics: provide a laptop to enable access for homework support or other cognitive games

  • Spots are limited based on capacity, so please call the centre to determine availability.
